So, you've just found out that cow's dairy is something that should be avoided. This leaves the predicament of choosing one of the dairy alternatives. Here are the three most popular dairy substitutes that are readily available to the public:
- Soy

The Top Dog: Soy Milk* Has been the most popular for some time, but is losing a bit of steam due to the prevalence of GMO soy.* Highest protein content of the three dairy alternatives.* It's the fullest, or thickest, of the three, giving it an immediately satisfying consistency.* Soy has become notorious for genetic modification. Relieving and Healing Joint Pain - Part 2

Getting in shape is easier when we're not in pain. A few weeks ago, I wrote to you regarding my knee problem and its resulting joint pain, that had me scooting up and down the stairs on my butt, as said knee painfully refused to cooperate. Naturally, my weight went up as my energy went down. Protein Salad - Cool, Spicy & Filling
This week we have a couple of our Campanelli household favorite recipes - great for summer, but, really, year round delicious. Enjoy.
SPICY PROTEIN SALAD - COOL AND FILLING
This is a raw-fooder's delight - no fatally weakened vegetables here...INGREDIENTS:
- A base of frisée lettuce and arugula. The frisée lettuce is particularly thick and nourishing and the arugula spicy.
- Radishes, also spicy.
- Heirloom tomatoes, yellows are less acidic than red.
- Broccoli florets.
- A can of frijoles or any beans you prefer - warmed.
- Avocado slices.
- Pico de gallo - make (see below) or buy a mild or fiery one. Pico de gallo, being all raw, is not as acidic as cooked salsas.
- Grated goat cheddar to avoid dairy allergies.
- Fresh corn added would be good as well, and if you have a particularly hungry lot for dinner, add some gently heated corn tortillas.
- 1 cup (~240 ml) olive oil
- ¼ cup (~60 ml) apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice
- Chopped Dill Weed to taste
- Garlic (freshly chopped) - 2-3 cloves
- Optional: Red pepper, thyme or similar herbs
Directions: Mix the dressing with the lettuce, arugula, radishes, broccoli and corn, then garnish the top with the tomatoes, avocados, frijoles, cheddar, black pepper and pico de gallo for a colorful, delicious and proteinaceous salad.
HOME-MADE PICO DE GALLO
Ready for the chopper in your Cuisinart:INGREDIENTS:
- Tomatoes of your choice, you'll want about 3 medium-sized or 2 large
- ½ to 1 jalapeño (seeds removed for wimps like me)
- 2 cloves of garlic
- Juice of 1-2 limes
- ½ to 1 papaya or mango
- ¼ red onion
- Salt and black pepper to taste

Right now, in the dog days of summer replete with wildfires, smoke and smog, we don't have to feel like fully paid up paranoids to want to protect our lungs and bronchi. We already feel that bit of tightness in the chest and throat, coughing discreetly as the lungs try to eliminate any inhaled particles.Record low rainfall levels in California and Oregon have created a higher than usual risk of wildfires and polluted air. The American Lung Association's "State of the Air" report for 2014 has once again put Los Angeles in the top 4 worst air-polluted cities in the country in all three categories. Six of the top 10 cities are all in California.
Protecting the Lungs
If you already have the Herba Pneu formula at home and are currently in the midst of respiratory distress, or are experiencing the aftermath of wildfire smoke, take an extra couple of capsules a day. Herba Pneu is an expectorant that will clear the sinuses, bronchi and lungs. Relieving Joint Pain Without Surgery
Yours Truly's Joint Pain Fiasco
A fine morning 3 months ago, I start up the stairs to the kitchen, still half asleep, when suddenly an all-consuming right knee joint pain woke me right up. On full alert now, I straightened my leg and it ebbed. Gently, I tried the step again, but my knee would have none of it. Of course, my mind immediately went to electric stair lifts, knee braces, crutches, walking sticks and Advil. Boy, was that messing with my head. This went on for a month or so, and I just went up the stairs on my butt - great upper body workout.Then our new batch of original formula BILICA arrived and I took the acute dose for my weight, which is 3 capsules, twice a day.
