Osteoporosis is usually caused by lack of exercise, an overly acidic diet, an imbalance in hormone functions and poor calcium absorption. Often, it is not so much what we lack, but what we over-consume. Sodas, coffee, antacids, too many tomato products, cow’s milk and meats, all rob our bones of magnesium and calcium. The irony is that over-the-counter, man-made calcium and magnesium are too difficult to absorb to be of much help and often cause bone spurs and depression. Our magnesium and calcium, along with their trace minerals, need to come from plant sources to be entirely effective, hence, the herbs in your Therapy Pack along with the listed foods.
Osteoporosis and Drinking Cola
A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded that drinking colas resulted in lower bone mineral density (osteoporosis), especially in older women*. This held true for diet and decaffeinated colas as well. (*Am J Clin Nutr October 2006 vol. 84 no. 4 936-942 )
Prescription Medications for Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis medications may make your bones in follow-up x-ray films APPEAR better, but are they? This class of drugs, called bisphosphonates (Boniva, Fosamax, etc.), do not help build new bone. Instead they prevent old, brittle bone from being broken down and eliminated, thus making the x-ray film of your bones appear denser. This may lead to shattered bones, most often a hip, following a fall.
The KIND of Calcium Supplement You Take is Very Important
Calcium carbonate, citrate, lactate and others, are laboratory produced and are lacking in the essential nutrients for calcium to be fully absorbed and used in your body.Herbal supplements, such as Cramp Bark and our MNF (muscle and bone nourishing formula), not only have easily-digestible plant food sources of calcium, but are also abundant in the synergistic nutrients essential to absorbing and transporting calcium in your body.Cramp Bark and MNF are also both used for PMS, menstrual cramps, charley horses (muscle spasms), sciatica, muscle weakness and sensitive teeth. Many of our patients who are actors use Cramp Bark in combination with Vervain for stage fright and audition nerves. The herbs in your Osteoporosis Therapy Pack have been specifically formulated for this sneaky disease based on centuries of observation and experience. They help to re-establish proper functioning of the organs involved and to give you the tools to heal without the threat of negative side effects.
